We are always happy for all kinds of support. While individuals and organizations do assist us financially, this page is all about you sharing your talents. We love to hear from you, tell us about your background and see if you may perhaps like to volunteers at our activity centre or even help out from the convenience of your own home.
For example, you may like to serve as a receptionist once a week for half a day or sort books in our library, do some filing or, on occasion, set up tables for a special event. One area in demand right now doesn't require you to be at the activity centre at all.
Right now we are looking for a few dedicated volunteers to do grocery and/or prescription shopping and deliver to people -- mostly elderly -- who aren't able to do this for themselves. It only involves a small time commitment once a week of one-and-a-half to two-and-a-half hours from the time you leave home until you get back. You'll have lots of flexibility as we always call first to find out if you are available that week before sending you a shopping list.
We also have a few volunteer opportunities if you would like to stay at home altogether. In that case you may be assigned to a person in need of a friendly phone call once a week. If you are a good listener and easy conversationalist this may be of interest to you. And who knows, perhaps you'll even have something in common with the person to whom you are assigned -- similar backgrounds, talents, etc.
We usually require our volunteers to get a security check from the local police department. After all, you'd be in contact with some of the most vulnerable members of society. However, you would receive a letter from us stating that it's for a volunteer position. That way, the security check will be provided to you without charge.
So why not click on the link below. It will open the volunteer application form. If you have no means of printing it out just drop by our activity centre at 234 Menzies Street in the James Bay neighbourhood community, or call us at 250-386-3035 and we'll gladly mail a printed copy to you.
